The Instrument Rating (IR) pilot course is a training program designed to prepare pilots to fly in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) when visibility is restricted. The IR rating is a certification required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, and other aviation authorities around the world, to operate an aircraft in IMC.
The IR course covers a variety of topics, including instrument procedures, navigation, flight planning, and instrument approaches and departures. Pilots learn how to use instruments and avionics to navigate and fly the aircraft safely in IMC, as well as how to interpret weather information and make informed decisions based on that information.
